Spring 2024

A Teacher’s View

By Kelli Lage

The morning sun
must bathe in honey
to keep up with the buzz
of candied youth.
Bell to bell
songs of first loves
pouring out through
AirPods.
Full classroom.
Hoops and hollers
on the matter of
what makes narratives
rise and breathe.
Bellowed by the horn
of the mustard buses.
By afternoon in winter days,
a blanket of dusk.
The creak of empty desks.
