what it is to be a white man

By Crystal Boson
“Barn, 2012” by Ed Touchette (Vol. 40.1)

come on outside
bring the good knife
pick a pig   any pig
learn to kill   a sweet thing
that can’t harm you

Crystal Boson is figuring it out. Life has been weird, but that means more poems are forthcoming. They write short, dense poems that lay bare the complicated geographies of the United States and the lives of the Black bodies trying to survive within its boundaries. Their most recent collection, the bitter map was selected as the winner of the 2017 Honeysuckle Press Chapbook Contest by Saeed Jones. Crystal is currently living in the Midwest with her partner and four cats, crafting new poems. Website: crystalboson.com
